Plymouth Rock Assurance: Carpooling is on the rise

carpoolThe New York Times recently posted an article about the increase in websites and apps that are promoting carpooling in the United States. The article references some ridesharing websites, which we’ve summarized below:

www.zimride.com
Zimride allows you to create a profile that helps match you up with a compatible riding buddy. List your favorite music and interests to help create a better match between you and a driver or passenger. Post a ride you’ll be making in case others are heading in the same direction and need a lift, or look up others’ destinations if you’d like to share a ride.

www.ridejoy.com
Similar to Zimride, Ride Joy lets you connect with other drivers and riders using your Facebook profile. Currently, Ride Joy is only offered on the West Coast, but sign up to find out when they’ll be expanding to New England.

www.avego.com
The Avego iPhone app can be downloaded free. With its built-in GPS, the app allows you to see the locations of drivers and other passengers with whom you can rideshare, and the ratings others have given these folks. After a ride, you can rate a driver or passenger, too.

www.nuride.com
Nuride allows you to redeem points and earn rewards for green activities like carpooling (with other members) or taking the bus. Just create an account and keep track of your trips to redeem points. Nuride is currently available in Massachusetts.

www.rideshare.com
Rideshare vans help local commuters get around town for a monthly fee.

www.carpooling.com/us
Carpooling.com is not live yet in the U.S., but you can sign up to be notified when it is. The website mentions it has saved 772 thousand tons of carbon emissions!

Headquartered in Boston, Plymouth Rock Assurance Corporation provides auto insurance to personal and commercial auto insurance customers in MA and CT. Plymouth Rock is the flagship carrier of The Plymouth Rock Group of Companies, which together write and manage over $1 billion in auto and homeowner’s insurance throughout the Northeast.
